Some of the most iconic brands in world history have used the power of design to start and grow their legacies. Here’s a variety of examples to take inspiration from.
Logos
Starbucks
Starbucks has a logo so recognizable that they’ve since removed their name from it altogether. They say their inspiration for the design came from Norse mythology (it is a mermaid with two tails after all). It’s incredibly unique, creative, and specific to their vision.
FedEx
Unlike the current iteration of Starbucks’ fanciful mermaid, FedEx chose to make their name the logo. This choice is specific to the needs of their market; fast, reliable service that is mostly business-related. Their use of negative space is also easy on the eyes.
Website Designs
Dropbox
Some of the hottest design trends of this year include placing a gorgeous piece of art and/or photography in the middle to the homepage. Dropbox’s image looks like is should be discussed with a glass of wine and a cheese platter. The piece also dabbles in metaphor (we say, swirling our Pinot Noir).
Stripe
Stripe offers a clean yet colorful take on the B2B world. This design type is common for a few really great reasons. It’s a master at the directing the eye (don’t you just wanna click that subtle “Create Account” button?) and it provides all the essential navigation tools that undoubtedly make their visitors sigh with relief having found exactly what they needed.
Video
Marie Forleo
In terms of stellar YouTube business models and video designs, noone has Marie Forleo beat. Her brand is so personal it’ll make you feel like you’re sitting in a room with her. And Oprah loves her so what more proof do you need?
Ahref’s Explainer Videos
If you’re camera-shy, don’t worry! Animated videos are also a masterclass in getting the best out of both worlds. They’re professional yet personal, informative yet fun, and provide endless options for both design and content.
